2 hour online workshop – Dealing with Difficult Behaviour – Children Aged 4-12

Dealing with children who display challenging behavior can be stressful and exhausting. However, there are often reasons why children present this way. Children use behavior to communicate their current state of emotion, which is not always obvious or easy for adults to understand – let alone get them to cooperate.

Key to Kids will present several practical strategies for people working with children who may not respond to initial reminders and requests. By firstly acknowledging children’s feelings, carers and educators can build trust and respectful relationships with the children they are responsible for.

This two-hour course will give step-by-step methods in gaining trust, keeping communication open, encouraging cooperative behavior and building harmonious environments in a range of child-focused settings.

2 hour online workshop – Establishing routines in an early childhood learning environment

Children thrive on routine, structure and consistency. This 2-hour course focuses on how a learning environment can explicitly support children in order to set them up for success! Through involving children in the establishment of these routines, they take ownership of their learning space and cooperatively engage in day to day activities.

This is the third course provided by Key to Kids via the In Safe Hands platform. It will consolidate ideas of acknowledging children’s feelings and engaging their cooperation but will build on the language used to support children in feeling confident and successful in their environment.
This course is suitable for educators or carers working with children aged 2 to 5.

2 hour online workshop – Problem solving with under 5s

Occasionally our best efforts as educators are not enough. Each child we care for has their own unique circumstances, there is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to addressing individual needs. Based on the work of Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish (authors of the 1980 book ‘How to talk so kids will listen & Listen so kids will talk), the problem solving strategy is an effective tool for parents and educators to negotiate the best outcomes for a tricky situation. Children under 5 CAN and DO have relevant ideas… we just need to allow them the opportunity to share them.

This 2-hour course demonstrates the step-by-step methods used to problem solve with young children.
